“It’s Cold, It’s Christmas Eve, and you’ve got £10
Do you…buy some food for the kids?
Orput the money on the meter?
That’s an Isle of Wight Christmasfor many local families.”
Says Ray Harrington-Vail as he launched a charity appeal to raise £10,000 to help low-income Island families and pensioners.
“The problem is that some 11,000 Islanders will spend this winter making the stark choice between Eating or Heating. These Island families are a growing number of people in the UK, in ˜fuel poverty’.”
If a household spends 10% of their income on energy for their home then they are in fuel poverty.
Many people choose to be cold rather than risk running up debt. This can make children, the elderly and disabled people ill.
You can make a practical difference to an Island family or pensioner by supporting The Footprint Trust’s Anti-freeze Fund
