Listen to advert featured on Isle of Wight Radio: Energetic - Fuel for Families [MP3]

Mums, dads and young people could be in for a windfall on their energy bills thanks to an initiative from the Island’s Footprint Trust charity.

Energetic is a project which involves young families and young people in saving money through sensible use of fuel.

Those contacting the Energetic Fueline or attending one of their free training events can expect to save loads of money on their fuel bills.

The Trust will be recruiting mums and dads to act as ‘Energetic Champions’ and will give free training to those involved. A short fun free training course will be held during the school day. Those trained will then be able to apply their new knowledge to their home and share their skills with neighbours, families and friends. The first 10 people to join up will get a free limited edition Energetic stylish orange tshirt.

The scheme is particularly important due to increasing fuel prices.

“Gas and electricity bills were over £1,000 in 2009 - a 30% increase in five years. The age of cheap energy is over. Household energy bills may double over the next five years. The Energetic project will help young families use fuel more efficiency. We have details of free and cheap insulation for homes and deals on new heating systems.”

“Those taking part could easily knock around £100 to £400 off their energy bills in the next year.”

Said Ray Harrington-Vail of the Footprint Trust.

The Energetic project also offers free home visits and a helpline – giving guidance on energy and water efficiency. More details by emailing ray@footprint-trust.co.uk Tel. 01983 82-22-82.

The ScottishPower Energy People Trust (SPEPT) has funded the Energetic project.

Neil Hartwell of SPEPT, said: “The Isle of Wight has some of the most poorly insulated homes in the country and fuel poverty is an issue affecting many households, which is why we hope the support we are giving will help to make a positive difference.

“This project which is being run by the Footprint Trust will be able to make a real impact on the lives of many families living on the Isle of Wight and we will be watching with interest to see how the project develops over the next three years.”
