Footprint Trust Press Release - Date: 05/08/11

Adopt-A-Garden shortlisted for Future Friendly Awards.

The Island’s popular Adopt-A-Garden scheme has been shortlisted for national award – the only one from the Isle of Wight and one of only six in the south east. To date the project has helped over 60 people – matching those who can no longer look after their garden with someone who has no growing space of their own.

Voting has just opened and will close on 21st August 2011 and Islanders are being urged to visit www.futurefriendly.co.uk/vote.aspx
and support this Isle of Wight initiative.

"We are hoping that many people will go on line and vote in support of the Adopt-A-Garden scheme - which has been featured many times in the IWCP, The Beacon magazine and Isle of Wight Radio. It has also been mentioned on BBC Radio 2, Gardeners' Question Time on Radio 4 and BBC TV. Adopt A Garden matches those who do not have a garden with those who can no longer manage to look after theirs." Said Ray Harrington-Vail who set up the scheme for The Footprint Trust charity.

If Adopt-A-Garden attracts enough votes to become an Awards finalist in the south East area, the scheme will receive £1,000 to expand its work.

A panel of expert judges will then select one national winner to receive the top prize of £10,000 in funding to help support their project, to be announced at an Awards event in London this September.
