Footprint Trust Press Release - Date: 26/11/12

    Adopt-A-Garden just digs bank donation...

The Island’ Footprint Trust charity has received a £2,500 grant from the Santander Foundation’s Community Plus initiative. The grant will help dozens of unemployed young people gain gardening training so they in turn can help older people, though the popular Adopt-A-Garden scheme.

Ray Harrington-Vail of The Footprint Trust said,
“We have a real shortage of gardeners to ‘adopt’ uncared for gardens. Many young people want to help but lack the skills. The funding from Santander Foundation will mean we can train young people, so they in turn can help others. They will also gain transferable skills and confidence – which will improve their prospects of getting a job.”
“The Isle of Wight has a high level of youth unemployment. The Footprint Trust, and our partner organisations, involves young people in a number of projects.”

“Adopt-A-Garden has matched some 100 people since it started a few years ago – we welcome people from all walks of life to get involved…”

Santander’s Newport branch spokesman said: “Community Plus allows our staff and customers to nominate local charities that are most in need of assistance. We are delighted to be supporting The Footprint Trust and hope the donation makes a real difference to local people.”
