    Footprint Trust Press Release - Date: 25/09/15

    Energy help warms up on the Island...

    People struggling with energy bills on the Isle of Wight are going to be helped thanks to funding from the ScottishPower Energy People Trust.

    Local energy experts from the Island's Footprint Trust will be visiting people in their homes and giving free, impartial guidance on reducing bills and using energy wisely. They will also be giving help via their Warmer Wight Plus helpline on (01983) 822282 by email info@footprint-trust.co.uk, and via their Facebook page and twitter feed.

    Until March 2015 The Footprint Trust had been funded to deliver the Warmer Wight Plus project by the 'My Life A Full Life' programme, and has identified estimated savings of more than 100,000 to over 3000 people seen at home visits and at events.

    The ScottishPower Energy People Trust funding will enable the project to be continued to benefit Isle of Wight residents until Autumn 2016.

    In addition to the free home visits, The Trust will be appearing at venues all over the Island ranging from Children's Centres to local cafes, social clubs to schools and even supermarkets and pubs! Their National Heat Hero, Ray Harrington-Vail will be at a number of events to talk about energy saving including the Bestival in September 2015 and Riverfest in May 2016.

    Heat Hero Ray was recently attended the Energy People Trust reception at the House of Lords on 16th September.

    The charity works with other local organisations including the CAB and Age UK to reach those having difficulty with their energy and water bills. The Footprint Trust is part of the Islehelp partnership, a group of local advice organisations, who can be contacted on 03444 111 444.

    As part of its awareness campaign The Trust is to hold an energy event at the Riverside Centre, Newport, on Friday 30th October 2015, from 11am to 3pm. At this free event people will be able to get advice and information on a wide range of help services, under the banner of the Islehelp partnership, and as part of the Big Energy Saving Week.

    One person who has benefited is Mr Chris Pitman**, an ex-serviceman living in Newport:-

    "I find it hard to ask for help but saw the ad for The Footprint Trust's Energy Event in December 2014 and went along for help with my heating. They came round to my house, and it didn't take them long to suss out what I needed, and they did it in a way which was not in my face. I think there are lots of people who need help and who are being by-passed - but The Footprint Trust will definitely help, and if they can't they seem to know who can."

    Speaking for the Footprint Trust Ray Harrington-Vail said;

    "If you or someone you know is worried about gas, electricity or water bills, are unsure how to set your night storage heater, or have questions about heating, insulation or damp issues, phone or email us now..."
