Footprint Trust Press Release - Date: 03/11/08

    Islanders back Future Energy Days

Some 600 people came to find out more about renewable energy and fuel efficiency during October half term week (27th to 31st October). The Footprint Trust, who organised the three events, aimed is to offer some help to householders facing high energy bills through subsidized and free insulation schemes. Dozens of people are now signed up to get their homes insulated.

“We were delighted to be able to tell many pensioners about the fact that they can get free cavity wall insulation…as part of our Warmahome initiative.”

The Footprint Trust also offered detailed guidance on how best to save energy in the home, and the events distributed some 200 low-energy lamps and dozens of save-a-flush bags.

Businesses were also given the opportunity to find out about ‘Energy Options, Profits & Savings’ from Business Link who held an event as part of the week at the Riverside Centre. Some 20 representatives from small and medium sized businesses came along and were informed about renewable technologies. An event is to be held at the end of November to promote use of woodfuels following on from these events.*

Local businesses supported all the events presenting modern wood burners, heat pumps and solar energy systems and wind technology. Age Concern and the Pension service were in attendance along with other local agencies. The Footprint Trust will also be attending the event to offer detailed guidance on how best to save energy in your home and cost-effective options for renewable energy. The Trust will be giving away low-energy lamps and save-a-flush bags.

Speaking for the Footprint Trust, Ray Harrington-Vail said,

“… Those attending were generally very complimentary about the information available….it was also a good opportunity for residents to meet staff from wind power companies and thus discuss their concerns. Most people we met were in favour of renewable technologies in the light of souring fuel costs, climate change and dwindling fossil fuel reserves…. ”
