Footprint Trust Press Release - Date: 06/08/10

Insulation scheme may end warns Trust

The government-funded Warm Front Scheme, which provides grants to make homes more energy efficient, may come to an end next March (2011), as there is no guarantee of further funding beyond that date. Last year nearly 700 Island households received assistance from the scheme, gaining new boilers and free insulation. This in turn is believed to have reduced the average domestic fuel bill by nearly £400.

The Island’s Footprint Trust charity, which assists Islanders struggling with high fuel bills, is urging people to get in quick –before the scheme ends.

Speaking for the Trust’s Warmahome project Ray Harrington-Vail said,

“It seems likely that this scheme will end in the spring. Now is the time of year to insulate your home and get a new boiler. Those on low income or in receipt of Disabled Living Allowance can usually get assistance.”

“Gas and electricity bills were over £1,000 in 2009 - a 30% increase in five years. The age of cheap energy is over. Household energy bills may double over the next five years. We have details of free and cheap insulation for homes and deals on new heating systems.”

“Our message is simple – don’t wait until the winter or the spring – do it now!”

The Footprint Trust offer free home visits to give guidance on being more energy and water efficient. They also have details on the Warm Front Scheme and other initiatives to get free or cheap insulation. The can be contacted on 822282 or by email info@footprint-trust.co.uk

As part of their concern about young families facing hardship through increased fuel prices they have set up the Energetic project in partnership with ScottishPower. Families and young people leaving home can contact the Trust for help. They will be running a free short training session at Newport CE Primary in September for parents wishing to reduce their fuel bills.
