Ventnor’s Winter Warmer…
The Warmer Ventnor scheme was officially launched in July and already has assisted over 20 people. The scheme is funded by Ventnor Town Council and delivered by the Island’s Footprint Trust charity.
The Footprint Trust visits people in their homes in the Ventnor area and gives them tailored guidance on staying warm, grants available and details of free or economic insulation initiatives. They have been able to use the new Warmer Ventnor Fund to supply energy efficient white goods, which has helped reduce fuel bills and improved lives. To date 11 A* energy efficient appliances have been purchased including washing machines, cookers and fridge-freezers and a dish-washer for a disabled pensioner. Other practical help has been provided by giving away thick thermal curtains.
Speaking for the Footprint Trust Ray Harrington-Vail said,
“We are delighted that we have been able to assist people including young families and older people who are really feeling the effects of the recession along with higher fuel prices. Other people have been helped via our helpline…”
Ventnor Town Council said: ‘this project has given us the opportunity to provide some very practical and fundamental assistance to some of our town’s poorest families.”
We are now looking for other Town and Parish Councils to run similar schemes in their villages and towns.
