The 2016 event on Saturday 21st May 2016 will feature a dramatic opening thanks to the Vectis Corps of Drums Marching Band. Who will also be performing rousing music during the day. They are a music organisation that plays all over the Isle of Wight, taking part in both marching and static displays. Returning to Riverfest this year is The Crew of the Rose charity, which is a living history group who entertain and educate the public on sailors and pirates from the early 1700’s. Be aware that their displays include firing of small arms and cannons! The Wolfguard Vikings will be attending celebrating the culture and crafts of these Nordic peoples, along with some fighting!
Local dance groups will be performing including students from Newport-based LVB dance studio, will be putting on vibrant energetic performances of modern and contemporary dance. the studio is ran by professional Commercial Street Dancer in the music industry, Linda Vincenta Byrne has been contracted for TV, festivals, music videos and corporate events both in the UK and abroad. She moved to the island 18 months ago to set up the company which provides both professional training at the Academy and dance fitness classes for those who just want to shift a few extra pounds. We will welcome the Traditional Ceri Irish Dancers – a family friendly dancing group and have been established for over 25 years on the Island and will be bringing their traditional and colourful performance to this year’s Riverfest. This year will see the premier performance of a new Island dance school, Stage1 Dance Academy. The academy provides young people and children with a strong foundation in singing, dance, drama and mime. Back by popular demand will be Short & Sweet, the dynamic comperes and all-round entertainers. Short n Sweet are one of the most professional duo’s in the South of England and were offered a place at boot camp on the X FACTOR. Mark on guitar accompanied by Paula, together they play a selection of songs from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s and 90’s to recent day hits. Great vocals & harmonies and professional backing tracks add to the quality of sound. Mark & Paula have have been in the entertainment business for many years, successfully on their own and together as a couple for the last 17 years.
Paula is a professional soubrette and has performed in many venues around the world and is also a fully qualified dance teacher and ran her own dance school “PJ’s Theatre School” on the Isle of Wight successfully for almost 30 years.
Mark is a multi-skilled musician and sound/lighting technician who has performed on cruise ships and venues around Europe, backing cabaret and headlining in holiday centres.
